BABA JI’s ENGLISH SATSANG AT BHATTI, NEW DELHI, ON 25th NOVEMBER 2017

GIST OF BABA JI’s ENGLISH SATSANG AT BHATTI, NEW DELHI,
ON 25th NOVEMBER 2017

In question answer sessions, children generally ask the question as to what is the purpose of life, why do we come here and what is to be achieved. The simple answer is that we come here to learn. Our parents send us to school and colleges so that we may learn and educate ourselves. Similarly in this life we have to learn and know about ourselves. Right now our awareness is limited to physical—to our name, body and world around. But in true sense we are not that. Our real identity is our soul.
Western philosophers, in the past, have maintained that we need to realize ourselves and stressed the need of Self Realization. Spirituality means Self- Realization before God realization. Once we realize that our true self is the soul then we automatically attain God realization. Once we know that soul is part of the Divine then there is no difference between the soul and the Divine. Until that is attained we live in “illusion of life”.
We see rays of sunlight. Down below at our level we experience the rays, but up above, the sun and rays are one. Sun and rays can never be separated. The same holds good for the soul and the Divine. Soul is a particle of the Divine, yet both of them are inseparable and are knotted together.  Gurbani says “आतम में राम, राम में आतम चीनस गुर विचारा”. Ram is not that Raja Ram or the husband of Sita-but that is रमा or that is absorbed in each and every particle of the creation or the Divine. Soul is merged in Ram—the Lord and that Ram is merged in the soul, while this truth can be understood through the guidance of a Guru.
We read पोथी and ग्रन्थ to know about spirituality and give शाबाशी to ourselves. By reading scriptures and holy books we can get knowledge about concepts but that does not provide us realization of the self. We remain within the realm of concepts only. Living in concepts or living a life of concepts is just like experiencing a mirage that has no reality. In the mirage we see water/food at some distance in a desert but when we reach at that place water or food is not there.  If one argument can be given in favor of one concept, then other persons can give ten arguments against the same concept and that will shake our faith--- the mirage disappears. That disturbs comfort of life and we become uncomfortable by shifting from one concept to another. Knowledge when put to practice gives understanding and that understanding will give us firmness in faith. That is when Realization comes.
In the entire Guru Granth Sahib—from beginning till end there is one broad message and that is of Nam. इको नाम हुकम है नानक सतगुर दिया भुजाये जिओ –that there is no difference in His will and Nam and that is what my Murshid has advised me. And then further more—नानक के घर केवल नाम. Bible also says in the beginning was the Word, and Word was with God and Word was God. Nam and God are the same. The bliss of Nam can be experienced by tuning the mind with the Divine—just as a radio has to be tuned to a particular radio frequency for listening to a particular station.
Bade Maharaj Ji would often say that Bhakti can be done two methods—meditation or complete surrender. But he would add that meditation is the easiest way out as complete surrender to the Beloved Lord is very difficult. It is thus very important to do meditation for living in His will and doing nam Bhakti.
