NO FREEWILL --EVEN FOR MAKING AN APPLE PIE

AN APPLE PIE

 

 An apple pie is a well known dessert across the world, the mere mention of which makes the mouth water. It is made from flour, sugar, butter and apple. The mixture of these ingredients is baked and then the resultant product is presented as a delicious dessert on the platter.

 

Says, Dr. Carl Sagan  (American Astronomer, Writer and Scientist, 1934-1996) “If you want to make an apple pie from scratch, you must first create the universe.”

 

The most critical words in the above two lines is ‘from scratch’. As a scientist Carl Sagan examined the process of making an apple pie more deeply. Flour is made from wheat that is grown on the soil of earth; sugar is produced from cane sugar under certain agro-climatic conditions; cows give milk and an apple is plucked from tree. The earth, its soil and water-- that is the source of moisture of all grains, food and fruits--- all are the gifts of the Nature. Other elements like fire and air are also gifted by a providential plan. Cows and trees are species of Nature that serve a definite purpose of this planet. Man, who has the intelligence of making an apple pie, is also designed by the Divine. Truly one has to create this cosmic creation if an apple pie is to be made from scratch.

 

 Man has no role in contributing to the underlying factors that make the apparent ingredients of an apple pie. His limitations are total and absolute. Carl Sagan is hinting that man of his own can do nothing. He simply acts under a given set of circumstances, has limited choices and appears to choose within the options available to him. His preferences too are governed by his parentages that carry a genetic codification and social milieu of past and present. Bible also says “the very hairs of your head are all numbered”---that the destiny has predetermined all.

 

Does it mean we have no freewill of our own? The truth is that our will is subservient to His will. We can exercise our freewill to the extent He permits us to do so as all basic conditions of life are circumscribed in the periphery of time, space, place, day, night, sun, moon, stars, air, water, fire, vegetation, conditions of body and health, social habitat, parental origin and material paraphernalia available in this world. Hazur used to say, “At human level we have a ‘conditioned freewill’. But from the higher level there is no freewill.” None except the Lord enjoys totality of freewill—called Omni will. Mystically and scientifically this is the fact.

 

  Mirdad’s cautionary advice is that “till you know the mysteries of Omniwill you must not set your will against it; for surely you shall be the loser. You will come out of each encounter scarred and drunk with gall (anger/infuriated)……”

                ज़िंदगी में कामयाबी क्या है??     

WHAT IS SUCCESS IN LIFE?

कामयाबी वोह ही है जो हम को अल्लाह की राह पर  चलने में मददगार हो, उसकी बारगाह में जाने का शौक पैदा करे और अपने असल की पहचान में फायदेमंद हो  ॥ असल मसला तो दुई को खत्म करना है॥ वोह शकस मुबारक है जिसको यह बात समझ आ जाए। इंसानी हयात की कामयाबी का यही एक राज़ है॥

बाकी जितनी दुनियावी जदोजहद है वोह इंसान की नाकामी है और पारेशानीओन और बखबख्तियों  का  आगाज है ॥ मुल्क या दुनिया या माशरे  में शुहरत और सरमायादारी  पाने की तमन्ना अगर पूरी भी हो जाए तो यह खुदी कि अनह और तुकबर पैदा करती है- जो की ज़िंदगी के असली मकसद से दूर ले जाती है॥ जो आदमी अपनी दुनियावी खाविषों का तलबगार रहता है, संसारी रंग तमाशों को सचा मानता है, उसके हिस्से में अखरीयत में फ़ना की खाक ही आती है ॥

अब सवाल यह पैदा होता है कि इस इंसानी जामे का सब से लाज़मी मकसद क्या है॥  फलसफा बस  इतना ही है--  मुरशिद-ए कामिल की तरीकत और इबादत  से खुदा से नजदीकी पैदा करनी, शरिया से ऊपर उठ जाना, रब-ए- करीम से विसाल की तमन्ना करना और तौहीद का चह्वान होना॥  बाकी सब दुनियावी अम्लों को सरसरी तोर से समझना और करना॥ हक हलाल की कमायी कर के अपनी ज़िमे- दारियों को निभाना, वालिद -वल्दियन, बाजुर्गों की खिदमत और अपने खानदान की सेवा करना ॥ इन को फर्ज समझ कर दुनिया के काम काज भी करना, ता कि कमायी नेकी की हो ॥ दिल नरम हो जाता है और हर तरह के जघड़े , मार काट से आदमी कुदरती तोर से जुदा हो जाता है ॥    

एक आम शकस के लिए फकीर की ज़िंदगी बसर करना आसान नहीं है॥ पर फकीरी दुनिया को छोड़ने या त्याग या ला -तालुकी भी नहीं है ॥ अपने असल की पहचान के लिए फकीरी क्या है ?? फकीरी वोह “फकर” का मुकाम  है या नफ़स की तबदीली है जिस में बंदा अंदर से बदल जाता है , बातीनी बदलाव आ जाता है  और तनहायी की मजीद शिद्दत होती है  ॥ ऐसी तबदीली, जिसमे हयाती मकसद सिर्फ खुदा की रज़ा को खुशी से कबूलियत का शौक  हो, और उसकी शौक मुरशिद-ए कामिल के हुक्म से पाबंद हो॥ इबादत में  कलमे या इस्म-ए आज़म, कलामे-इलाही या आवाज़े मुस्तकीम या नूर-ए इलाही का जिक्र, फिक्र और रियाजत होती है ॥

दूसरे अल्फ़ाज़ों में इस को इश्क -हक़ीक़ी भी कहा जा सकता है – जिस में विरह, तड़प, वैराग, सब्र और रज़ा के जज़्बात अनासर  होते हैं ॥ ऐसे सरूर का पता तब चलता है मन दुनिया से उचाट हो जाए या बे -फिक्री आशना हो जाए और हिजर के हालात में फुरकत से मोहब्बत पैदा हो जाए ॥ मोहब्बत भी एक अजीब शेय है --- सारी दुनिए से जनूनी मुहब्बत करने से तो सिर्फ तकलीफ और जिल्लत ही मिलती है ॥ पर अगर खुदा से इश्क- हक़ीक़ी हो जाए तो सारी कायनात की मोहब्बत बंदे को सजदा करती है ॥ रूह में हक़ीक़ी सकून का आगाज होता है॥ अनल -हक की समझ आ जाती है ॥   

विरला ही कोई ऐसा बशर होगा , जिस पर रब की ऐसी रहमत होगी, फजल होगा, मौज होगी या करम होगा॥ लाज़िम यह है कि ज़िंदगी की ऐसी ज़िमेदारी से गफलत नहीँ करनी चाहीये और खास तवजू देनी चाहीये  ॥ रुहानियत का भी यही सार है ॥ यही इंसान की कामयाबी है ॥

The prime feature of Guru Nanak Sahib's Mool Mantra is—"what is the nature of God' and "how that spiritual wisdom can be experienced".  This may require introspection of the following "ten" words.

इकओ सतिनामु करतापुरखु निरभउ निरवैरु

अकालमूरति अजूनी सैभं गुर प्रसादि।। जप //

God's nature is both positive and negative—as per sequential arrangements of the words in the Mantra.

POSITIVE CONNOTATION

1) Eko – ONE, the ONLY ONE

2) Satnam—His name is the Truth that exists

3) Kartapurakh – The One that has the power of doing and undoing

 NEGATIVE CONNOTATION

4) Nirbhao—Not afraid of anyone.

5) Nirvair—No enmity.

6) Akal  Moorat—Not in any time frame.

7) Ajooni—Never born and, therefore, never dies.

8)Saibhang—Self-sustained with these seven undertones.

9) GurPrsad --These multiple dimensions of the Divinity can be blessed through the True Guru

19. समझ न मुझ को ना-तवाँ-- you think I'm feeble

20. ख़याल-ए-ज़ोहद अभी कहाँ-- Thoughts of abstinence, why so soon?

8.   अलग हुए भी हैं कभी -- ever been separated?

9.   हसीन जल्वा-रेज़ हों -- When graceful youth abounds,

10. अदाएँ फ़ित्ना-ख़ेज़ हों - resplendent and mischievous

11. हवाएँ इत्र-बेज़ हों-- And winds are fragrant,

12. तो शौक़ क्यूँ न तेज़ हों­-- wouldn't desires be inflamed?

13. निगार-हा-ए-फ़ित्नागर Provocative lovers,(temptations of the sweethearts)

14. कोई इधर कोई उधर -- some here, others there

15. उभारते हों ऐश पर -- When they arouse sensuously,

16. तो क्या करे कोई बशर -- what power can a preacher have?

17. चलो जी क़िस्सा-मुख़्तसर-- It's sorted then,

18. तुम्हारा नुक़्ता-ए-नज़र -- your point of view

19. दुरुस्त है तो हो मगर -- is right. Nevertheless

20. अभी तो मैं जवान हूँ -- I'm as yet rather young!"

PART 3 –ABHI TO MAIN JAWAN HUN—SAYS PLEASUREFUL YOUNGMAN

1.   ये गश्त कोहसा की--This stroll on the mountain

2.   ये सैर जू-ए-बार की-- this trek by a stream

3.   ये बुलबुलों के चहचहे--Chirping nightingales

4.   ये गुल-रुख़ों के क़हक़हे-- guffaws from lovely faces

5.   किसी से मेल हो गया-- Chancing upon your love,

6.   तो रंज ओ फ़िक्र खो गया-- casts off grief and worries

7.   कभी जो बख़्त सो गया -- According to their luck,

8.   ये हँस गया वो रो गया -- some laugh, some weep

9.   ये इश्क़ की कहानियाँ-- These tales of passion,

10. ये रस भरी जवानियाँ -- these juicy youths

11. उधर से मेहरबानियाँ -- Some graciousness there

12. इधर से लन-तरानियाँ -- some boasting here

13. ये आसमान ये ज़मीं -- This sky, this earth

14. नज़ारा-हा-ए-दिल-नशीं--- how heart-pleasing views

15. इन्हें हयात-आफ़रीं -- This praiseworthy life

16. भला मैं छोड़ दूँ यहीं-- how can I, renounce here

17. है मौत इस क़दर क़रीं --- That death could be so near,

18. मुझे न आएगा यक़ीं--- I cannot believe

19. नहीं नहीं अभी नहीं-- No no, not yet, no no, not yet)

1.   न ग़म कुशूद ओ बस्त का- I grieve not for openness or closeness,

2.   बुलंद का न पस्त का -- zenith or nadir

4.   न वादा-ए-अलस्त का- nor for promises of future creation

5.   उम्मीद और यास गुम - I have lost hope and despair

6.   हवास गुम क़यास गुम -- logic and presumptions

7.   नज़र से आस पास गुम-- I see nothing around me unstrained

8.   हमा-बजुज़ गिलास गुम -- nothing except my goblet

9.   न मय में कुछ कमी रहे-- Let there be no dearth of wine,

10. क़दह से हमदमी रहे -- my friendship with pub

11. नशिस्त ये जमी रहे --- Let the gathering live on

12. यही हमा-हामी रहे -- forever young and hectic

13. वो राग छेड़ मुतरिबा -- Sing such a melody, Lady singer,

14. तरब-फ़ज़ा, अलम-रुबा -- my soul surges, sorrows wane

15. असर सदा-ए-साज़ का-- Effect of instrumental music

16. जिगर में आग दे लगा --, sets my heart on fire

17. हर एक लब पे हो सदा-- Let everyone implore

18. न हाथ रोक साक़िया--, don't stop your hand bartender

19. पिलाए जा पिलाए जा-- Pour more, Pour more, Pour more, Pour more."
