1.      निगाह-ए-फ़क़्र ( eyes of a saint)  में  शान-ए-सिकंदरी   क्या है

ख़िराज(wealth)  की   जो गदा  (bowl of clay) हो  वो  क़ैसरी  (sovereignty) क्या है

 

2.      बुतों (idols)   से   तुझ  को   उमीदें  ख़ुदा   से   नौमीदी( disappointment)

   मुझे   बता   तो   सही   और   काफ़िरी (betrayal of God) क्या है

 

3.      फ़लक(destiny) ने उन को अता(given) की है ख़्वाजगी(royalty) 

कि जिन्हें

ख़बर नहीं रविश-ए-बंदा-परवरी(serving humanity) क्या है

 

4.      फ़क़त(only) निगाह(glance) से होता है फ़ैसला दिल का

न हो निगाह में शोख़ी (grace) तो दिलबरी (attachment in heart) क्या है

 

5.      इसी ख़ता से इताब-ए-मुलूक(anger of rulers) है मुझ पर

कि जानता हूँ मआल-ए-सिकंदरी(wealth of rulers) क्या है

 

6.      किसे नहीं है तमन्ना-ए-सरवरी(desire to rule) लेकिन

ख़ुदी की मौत हो जिस में वो सरवरी क्या है

 

7.      ख़ुश आ गई है जहाँ को क़लंदरी (mental renunciation of world) मेरी

वगर्ना शे'र मिरा क्या है शाइ'री क्या है

 

 

 DETAILING IN FULL 

 

 

1            निगाह-ए-फ़क़्र में शान-ए-सिकंदरी क्या है

An ascetic or a saint who has mentally renounced the world considers royal wealth and glory worthless.

ख़िराज की जो गदा हो वो क़ैसरी क्या है

Worldly wealth is notional like a bowl of clay if the Ruler or King is always concerned with securing his kingdom.

2            बुतो से तुझ को उमीदें ख़ुदा से नौमीदी

If your craving is linked to idols, other human beings, or society, in preference to God

मुझे बता तो सही और काफ़िरी क्या है

Then tell me what is a betrayal of God.

3            फ़लक ने उन को अता की है ख़्वाजगी कि जिन्हें

Destiny has blessed kingdoms to those

ख़बर नहीं रविश-ए-बंदा-परवरी क्या है

Who have served humanity without expectation of any rewards.

4            फ़क़त निगाह से होता है फ़ैसला दिल का

Spiritual Transformation in hearts is blessed by God’s gracious glance.  

न हो निगाह में शोख़ी तो दिलबरी क्या है

Without Divine Glance, the bonds of loving union for the Lord remains missing.

5            इसी ख़ता से इताब-ए-मुलूक है मुझ पर

The rulers are annoyed with me for I made the mistake

कि जानता हूँ मआल-ए-सिकंदरी क्या है

I(Iqbal) know the worthlessness of the temporal wealth of Kings like Sikandar.

6            किसे नहीं है तमन्ना-ए-सरवरी लेकिन

Who does not crave for royal sovereignty?

ख़ुदी की मौत हो जिस में वो सरवरी क्या है

What is that desire for sovereignty that annihilates the purpose of life —or the purpose of life of self-realization?

7            ख़ुश आ गई है जहाँ को क़लंदरी मेरी

My bliss lies in my self-effacement, bereft of ego self  

वगर्ना शे'र मिरा क्या है शाइ'री क्या है

Otherwise, my thoughtful poetry is of no use.
