GURU NANAK’S SAHIB- JAPJI STANZA SEVEN --- जे जुग चारे आरजा

जे जुग चारे आरजा होर दसूणी होइ ॥

नवा खंडा विचि जाणीऐ नालि चलै सभु कोइ॥

चंगा नाउ रखाइ कै जसु कीरति जगि लेइ॥

जे तिसु नदरि न आवई त वात न पुछै के॥

कीटा अंदरि कीटु करि दोसी दोसु धरे॥

नानक निरगुणि गुणु करे गुणवंतिआ गुणु दे ॥

 

ESSENCE--The essence of this stanza is that even the exceptionally reputed and celebrated persons are worthless unless blessed by the Lord. But the way Guru Nanak Sahib has explained this concept is exceptionally unique.

EXTENDED UNDERSTANDING-- जुग चारे आरजा होर दसूणी- Should a person’s lifetime stands extended for four yugas multiplied by ten times or about 40 million years, even then external devotions-- asceticism, rituals, readings, recitations may be regarded only as noble karma with corresponding consequences.  But he shall still lack self-realization or experiencing the Lord.  

(Indian mythology states that the time-period in years of each yuga is—(Satyug- 17,28,000, Tretayug –12,96,000, Dwapar-8,64,000, Kalyug-4,32,000. That is a total of 43,20,000 years or four about million years and multiplied by ten that is 40 million years).

Since each person aspires and yearns for an honourable reputation, he may even attempt to expand his stature in nine continents globally -नवा खंडा विचि जाणीऐ (namely Asia, Africa, North America, South America, Antarctica, Europe, Australia, and other oceans.)

जे तिसु नदरि न आवई- But unless such a person is blessed with the glance of Lord’s Grace directly or in meditative contemplation, his worldly and material attainments mean little in the Divine Court—that he shall remain unaware of the Ultimate Reality or the Eternal Truth.

कीटा अंदरि कीटु करि दोसी दोसु धरे--Devoid of Divine Grace, the standing of such a person will be the lowest of the lowest--like insects in the worms. The individual will be held accountable with contempt by such worms for ignoring the necessity of attenuation with the Shabad.

The Lord is Omniscience can make worthless individuals virtuous and worthy of His Grace.
